Paul Baker joined the NSW Police Force in 1972. In the late 1970’s he became active in the Police Association as a branch official becoming a delegate to conference in 1983. In 1994 he was elected to the Executive and served continuously for 8 years until he retired in 2002 with the position of vice–president. Paul is remembered for his support of Branch Focus and for the active role he took in the recruitment and mentoring of branch officials. As a police officer he is remembered for his courage and devotion to duty during the Star Hotel Riot in Newcastle in 1979 and for the dedication he displayed as a Peer Support Officer. In 2002 Paul was promoted to the rank of chief inspector. He died in office on 17 July 2007.
