Gregory (Greg) Black is the son of deceased life member James (Jim) Black and, like his father, has had a long involvement with the Police Association and served in a number of capacities. He was a branch official for the Water Police 1984–1991 and Northern Beaches 1991–1993; delegate to conference in 1993, 1994 and 1996 and Executive member 1996–1998. In 1994 he was seconded to the Association as an organiser and in 1998 took up the position permanently. In 2002 he was promoted to manager of Field Officers and at the beginning of 2003 to Assistant Secretary Organising. As an elected official and member of staff, Greg has been involved in a number of major reforms to the working conditions of NSW Police including changes to uniform and equipment and negotiating conditions and allowances for major operations. He is particularly respected for his organising and mentoring skills and for his loyalty and dedication to the Police Association and the membership. Greg was sworn in on 26 June 1978 and resigned on 2 May 1998 with the rank of sergeant.
