Miss Chapman, “Chappie” as she was affectionately known, commenced employment with the Police Association in 1922 as a shorthand-typiste/book-keeper and was employed continuously for 48 years until her retirement in January 1970. She served in a number of positions including personal secretary to Bertram Fortescue and Frank Laut, supervisor of office staff and chief clerk. In 1954 she was appointed assistant general secretary, a position she held by voluntary arrangement until January 1969. She then resumed her official position of chief clerk. Respected by all for her efficient, willing and pleasant manner, she was the first person to receive honorary life membership in 1952. After her retirement she settled in the Blue Mountains. She died on 23 November 1983.
