Garry Dunne first became involved in Police Association activities in 1982. In 1987 he was elected to the Executive becoming a trustee 1988–1990 and treasurer in 1990–1992. In 1992 he became assistant secretary, Administration and in 1997 secretary, a position he held until his retirement in 2005. Garry is remembered for his business acumen and passion for members’ welfare. As treasurer and later secretary he successfully strove to put the Association on a sound financial footing and was a director of the Police Credit Union. He was also a foundation director of NSW Police legacy and took a personal interest in the welfare of members, their families and staff. Garry was sworn in on 22 June 1970 and resigned on 22 June 1992 with the rank of sergeant 2nd class.
