Sidney (Ted) Wood became involved in the Police Association in 1957 as branch secretary for No 2 Branch (Regent Street). In 1959 he was elected to the Executive. From 1962–1974 he served as either junior or senior vice-president. During this time he was noted for his support of a scheme to provide assistance to police widows and children and for improvements to superannuation. Ted joined the NSW Police Force in 1950 after serving in both the Australian Army and Australian Air Force. He retired in 1980 with the rank of sergeant 2nd class. He died on 9 November 1996.
