‘Ice is dominating our work’: NSW police want 2500 more officers to combat ice epidemic

The New South Wales Police Association is seeking an extra 2500 officers as it battles a growing crystal meth epidemic.

The association is calling on the government to provide the additional staff as part of their Back the Blue campaign.

They are also asking for an extra 72 officers in regional NSW and 42 officers in Sydney.

The association has released confronting videos and photos revealing the violence police officers are facing daily on the frontline.

One Polair video shows five officers attending a home on the Central Coast in April 2017, where a man believed to be high on the drug ice allegedly intended to attack his own mother.

All five were needed to restrain the man and get him into the back of a police van.

Police Association President Tony King said the “all-pervasive” epidemic has started to “dominate (officer’s) work”.
