Today our heart goes out to our Dog Unit Family as we mourn the loss of PD Xtra and PD Soldier. The entire police family feels this tragic loss deeply and we all come together to support the Handler and wider Police Dog Unit.
Following yesterday’s event a PANSW branch welfare officer attached to the Dog Unit was on site supporting the members as they processed this incident. PANSW field organising and legal team were activated immediately to provide assistance to the handler directly involved.
This support will continue through the entire process and we are unable to comment further on the circumstances due to the investigations on going status.
The PANSW is always on the ground in these circumstances and is always available to its membership. 140 trained branch welfare officers and hundreds of Local Branch Officials across the state ensures that the PANSW is available to be activated in circumstances such as these. Those qualified BWO’s work hand in hand with field organisers as they deal with individual members. This extensive network means there is never any situation where the PANSW is unavailable to support its members.
The PANSW will actively review any outcome of this investigation and report back to members.
